Advises that they not be critical of the Chinese government.
On Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi again cautioned America’s Olympic athletes to not protest the Chinese Communist government while competing in the Winter Games in Beijing. “I wish the athletes well,” Speaker Pelosi said. “I do not encourage them to speak out against the Chinese government because I fear for their safety if they do.” No American government officials will be in attendance due to the diplomatic boycott of the games by the United States,
Earlier she told the athletes that they are “there to compete” and are not to “risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government.” Speaker Pelosi stated, “I fear for the physical safety of those who may speak out.” She added that she respects that some may desire to speak out, but that she worries “about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations, to their families.”
Earlier this week, FBI Director Christopher Wray said the threat coming from the Chinese Communist Party is “more brazen” and “more damaging than ever before.” The State Department has also recommended visitors avoid demonstrations and “keep a low profile.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Speaker Pelosi as she expresses cautions to U.S. Olympic athletes.
- For FBI Director Wray as he reviews and disseminates threat information.
- For officials in the State Department as they advise the American Olympians while in Beijing.
- That the American athletes would have wisdom and discretion as they compete and interact.
